Well, It's finnally got to that time of year! did the first "Christmas Show" the other night!
Every year this comes around and every year I think I must rehearse and practice the Christmas sketches in advance and every year I forget!
It always ends up with me looking at a mad list and track list from last year and trying to remember what it was that I did last year!
Well, nothing new this year, ten minites before I go on stage I am trying to work out what last years notes meant.
Still, can't have been that bad as they have rebooked me for Feburary!

Some Hypnosis shows are harder than others

Last week was a funny old week!
Four shows, all completely different!
Tuesday took me to a local students halls of residence, somewhere I have played many times before and, as usual, I was not disappointed, another great show!
Wednesday took me to Chesterfield, unfortunately there were only twenty one people there (including staff) and the other act's girlfriend. Yet, amazingly, I had a good show (see photo), I managed to hypnotise two customers, one member of staff and the singer's girlfriend!
Thursday took me to a pub in Sunderland where I played to a two hundred and fifty sell out crowd, Great night, they are having me back!
Then Saturday, a fiftieth birthday party and renewal of wedding vows, another great show and the chance to hypnotise Anthony Hutton (see photo), the winner of 'big brother 6'.

Even Hypnotists get lucky on holiday!

Hi
We have just got back from a short family break away to Disneyland Paris, we wanted to see how they did Christmas celebrations there and we were not disappointed. It was fantastic! (although my favorite bit was a bit simple, I loved the fact that it snowed in Main st every half hour!).
Our lucky break! We stayed at the Disney Hotel, right at the entrance to the park, and on arrival we got a free upgrade to an £800 per night suite! Fantastic! This photo was the view from our room!

The Stage Hypnotists' Stage Hypnotist!!!

Well, it's nice to know that after all these years my show is still worthy of being watched by others in the business!
I was doing a little bread and butter gig at a small pub, near Doncaster, on a cold Wednesday night this week. When, to my total surprise, just a few minutes before I am due to start, in walks Chris Lee and Mark Story.
They did not see the best show I have ever done, but at least they saw me work and pull it off in a hard environment!
It was also nice to have a few words after the show and put faces to names etc., more of us should do this kind of thing, this industry has become too bitchy and back stabbing, don't you think?

Still undiscovered after 17 years!

Sometimes I wonder what it takes to get people to know about you in this business!
Last weekend I did my first job for an agent that I had not worked for before, the show went really well, everyone had a great time and there was talk of booking me back and booking me into other venues in the group, great news!
Yesterday, I got a note from said agent (Along with his commission invoice!) saying that he had heard it went really well and that he will use me again!
Don't get me wrong, Yes, this is what I want to hear! But if it has taken him 17 years to find out that I am a "good act!" how do I get this message across to all the other agents that haven't tried me yet?

Fortean times

Well, I do keep getting all the unusual gigs!
I have just come back from London doing a job for the PR agency that handles Sega games.
By brief was to hypnotize a reporter from the Fortean Times and give him a realistic medieval experience of a military commander preparing for and going into battle in 1066, before he played their new release Medieval 11.
This all took place in a little back room of a hotel off Soho Square and it all seemed to go really well, the PR agency were delighted with the results and the reporter thought it was an unusual but very fascinating experience.
We can only wait for the article to come out in print now, which should be in the 16th November issue. http://www.forteantimes.com/

Stage Hypnotist training update

I have just heard from my latest trainee back in Germany, He is way ahead of schedule, he has just done his first show and it all went really well! I am so proud for him and he is delighted, "Money well spent" in his words!
Well done Ashley!

Unusual Stage Hypnosis Show!

Well 17 years as a full time professional stage hypnotist has taught me to expect the unexpected!
Recently I got a short notice job from an agent for a college show in Suffolk, I presumed it must be a last minute freshers job, how wrong I was to be!
On arrival at said college, it turns out to be a very up market boarding school and I am actually booked to perform at the house dinner, my audience will be about 14 adults (teachers and partners etc.) plus about 80 boys aged 13 to 17.
So, after a quick emergency re-think of my patter and material I eventually get on after the meal and teachers speeches. I do my intro patter and ask for volunteers as usual and then I get mobbed! Left in my audience are the 14 adults and about the same boys, all the rest are now on stage wanting to be hypnotised!
Needles to say, I have to whittle this down loads then we have a fantastic night that everyone is really pleased with.
But the unexpected does not stop there, when I go to collect my fee I get paid £40 in pound coins and the rest in £5 notes. It turns out the boys have paid for it themselves and collected the money in like that!

Student Freshers again!

Hi
It's that great time of the year again for us stage hypnotists, 'Freshers Week' at all the universities and colleges!
Oh how I love this time of year! the shows are always so good and the audiences are so appreciative.

Stage Hypnotist Training

Been a really busy week, last week, I had a guy over from Germany to learn Stage hypnosis as well as fitting in my own shows.
It all went really well, he seemed to pick up the concept very well and he had some good, original ideas!
He already has his first show booked for the 5th December, so good luck Ashley!

Summer is over!

Yesterday saw the last of my summer holiday camp bookings for another year and, fortunately I was able to go out with a bang.
What a great show to finish the summer with, nine volunteers, hypnotised eight of them and had a really good show.
I will miss the summer shows, but not the travel, 330 miles - five and a half hours each way! Who says "being a stage hypnotist is easy!"
Well, what's next? Soon be Christmas, then it won't be long until next summer!

Book a hypnotist now for Christmas!

Well, things are looking up at last! Things are eventually starting to move on the December enquiries. It seems much later this year, but who cares as long as they all sell!

Possibly the shortest stage hypnosis booking in the world!

Hi
I Think I have had the shortest hypnosis booking in history!
A client phoned me on Saturday evening and made a definate booking for my show for a few weeks time, we agreed all the details and I said I would contract it Monday morning for him.
On Monday morning, before I even have time to do the paperwork, he phones back to say they have changed their minds and do not want the show after all!
Has anyone ever had a shorter booking than that?

Never quite what you expect 2!

I recently accepted a booking from a reputable agent for a job at Catterick army barracks. Great! I thought to myself, a room full of squaddies, should go really well (Well, it seemed an easy asumption to make as that is exactly what I had had there just a few months earlier with a load of squaddies just about to go off to Iraq).
How wrong could I be?
It turned out to be a gig, through the camp welfare office, for the wives of the soldiers who were away on duty. Well to be precise 19 of them in a room not much bigger than my living room!
Looked like it would be a hypnotists nightmare, but, in fact, it went really well! 9 of them volunteered and I hypnotised 7 of them and we all had a great night!

Never quite what you expect!

Hi
Recently I took a booking for a birthday party in a marquee in someones gargen for about 100 people.
Sounds good! when I arrived the door was opened by wonder woman! Ahh... fancy dress! no one had told me! I was shown to the garden to find that the marquee was actually a climbing rope from the upstairs bedroom to a pole in the garden with 4 ground sheets cable tied over it!
The DJ was setting up in the garden shed and the client wanted me to perform under the ground sheets where they were flapping in the wind!
A little negotiating later and I set up and performed under a domestic gazebo at the other end of the garden, but time was getting on now and it was getting a bit dark, so the audience illuminated my show with about 5 torches until a halogen lamp was set up. This worked fine until someone kicked the extension reel into the fish pond and we were back to torch light!
Ohh what a night!

Still an International Stage Hypnotist!

Hi
Just a quick note to let my friends know that 'family life' has not stopped (just reduced) my work overseas.
Last Saturday saw my first overseas gig of the year (Unless you count the Isle of Man!) I was out in Germany again, entertaining the British troops, and another very successful night it was too!

Bank holiday stage hypnosis

Well, another bank holiday been and gone, no more untill Christmas!
It did make a change to be working locally on all four days this year (no bank holiday traffic to put up with).
Plus what a nice variety of jobs, one fund raiser for a local comunity centre, one wedding reception, one eighteenth birthday party and a local pub. All went excellently and it looks like there will be some more bookings and rebookings to come from them!
I've got a few days off now until the end of the week then it's off to Germany to entertain the British troops out there!

Pet hate of a stage hypnotist!

Hi, I am sure most professions that deal with the public have there pet hates, somthing that the public say to you thinking that they are funny and original, but really you have heard it all before over and over again!
Well, as a stage hypnotist it has changed over the last few years, when I first started, seventeen years ago, at almost every show at least one person would walk up to you and click their fingers in your face and shout "SLEEP!" thinking that they were totally original and that it was the first time that you would have heard it.
As a professional, you would have to force a smile and commend them on their quick wit and originality, whilst thinking somthing completely different!
This all changed almost overnight, due to the television show "Little Britan" and their character "Kenny" the stage hypnotist.
How I long for someone to come up and shout "SLEEP" at me again instead of people getting in your face and shouting "LOOK INTO MY EYES... LOOK INTO MY EYES... NOT AROUND MY EYES!..." We still have to deal with it with a fake smile, but you can't help thinking "Oh no, not again!"
If you work in a different profession that has it's regular anoying comments please let me know what gets to you?
